Enabling the Energy Transition

Reliability grounds us.

Renewability elevates us.

Renewable

Sustainable wind and solar power generation. Onward Energy is leading the transition that is taking place on the U.S. electric grid. Over time, renewables will become the core of the nation’s power supply. We own and operate utility scale wind and solar projects across 13 states and 6 regional transmission organizations, including ISO-NE, ERCOT, CAISO, MISO, NY-ISO, and SPP.

%

Between 2008 and 2018 the US electric sector had a 26% reduction in CO2 emissions.

—when needed.

Reliable

Onward Energy owns and operates eight major natural gas-powered electric generating facilities in Arizona, California, Colorado, and New Mexico. These facilities are there when they’re needed—and can be turned off when they’re not. But most importantly, our gas facilities allow for a higher penetration of renewables on the grid. Our clean, efficient gas-fired generation assets are flexible and responsive to the integration of wind and solar generation resources, providing reliable regulation for renewable technologies. In addition, our operational excellence and maintenance expertise create strong availability factors across our fleet, demonstrating our commitment to providing customers with reliable service that fills the gaps in renewable generation when necessary so the power is always on.

Examples of Renewables and Natural Gas Complentarity

This chart showing the typical daily dispatch of our Pio Pico plant shows that Onward Energy makes it possible to use renewables when they’re available and fill the gap when they’re not—without compromising the reliability of electrical power.
